Dear loved ones,
It’s been a while since I wrote to you! I’ve been working on a very special project which I cannot wait to share with you all in a few weeks time.
I’ve been spending lots of time writing more songs lately, and in particular lullabies - perhaps my favourite song form.
Did you know researchers find that lullabies exist in almost every culture and civilization and that even if we do not speak the language in which it is sung, adults and children can recognise a lullaby across cultures?
I love lullabies, and think we need them as much when we are adults as when were were children. Lullabies have certain shared traits, one of them being that they are meant to be sung without accompaniment in a domestic setting. As such, I’m doing the brave thing and sending you, for the first time, a full song just with a raw voice recording. I’d like to hide behind a full and fancy production, but I can’t right now. So this will suffice.
At some moments I’m finalising the tune as I sing this recording! We spend a lot of our lives listening to music once it’s been put through a huge industrial process, so I guess could be rare for you to hear a song in its infancy like this. Please treat this song as if I have sent you a precious seed in need of protection: sing it in your kitchen if you like, help it to grow.
This is “Lullabies for the lost”. Treat yourself to a lullaby before you rest your weary head tonight.
Love always,
Eleanor Flowers x
Lullabies for the lost
Lullabies for the lost
Lullabies for the broken
If I could give up my life for a cause I’d write
Lullabies to crack your heart open
Lullabies for the fallen
Lullabies for the damned
Sleep sleep sleep
Everything’s going to plan
Lullabies for the poor
and lullabies for the wealthy
lullabies for the frail and the old
lullabies for the hungry, the cold I’d write
Lullabies for the people
Who’d hoped for better than this
Lullabies for the ones left awake
praying for one final kiss
I would sing for all of you
No matter the cost
Lullabies free for everyone
but especially for
The lost

Beautifully raw and moving. We all need lullabies. Especially now 🥀
