It’s true. I really did go out hunting for the blue moon this year 🌕
Didn’t find it.
And then I wrote a poem about it, which I wanted to be funny. I was surprised at what came out instead. A poem about that age old human feeling of searching for something. Of wanting a sign, of sorts, that we are on the right track.
Often when I try to write funny things they come out sad and when I write about sad stuff people think I am being funny! It’s weird.
Poetry and art has a way of showing us where we are at and what we are really thinking, doesn’t it? Whether we like it or not.
This is Searching for the Blue Moon. Another villanelle!
Happy Sunday lovely readers.
Sound on - if that’s your thing! Trust me on this.

Searching for the Blue Moon
I went out searching for the moon
Went looking for the night’s godhead
Send me a sign, a midnight rune
Her comfort could not come too soon
I found no solace in my bed
I went out searching for the moon
I could not hear my heart’s soft tune
Above the screaming in my head
Send me a sign, a midnight rune
Inside me reigns a cruel monsoon
But at this hour the streets are dead
I went out searching for the moon
Who else hears that mad typhoon?
Fueled by what is left unsaid
Send me a sign, a midnight rune
Moon! Spin for me a quiet cocoon
Mark out the unlit path I tread
I went out searching for the moon
Send me a sign, a midnight rune

The picture is a crop of the painting The Dress, by me (Eleanor Flowers😉). Can you believe it’s been nearly a year since I first published The Dress? Thank you so much for being part of this creative project and for supporting my work as a poet and an artist.
