Bonsoir mes amis,

Throughout my performance of Shopping for God, I create different dresses for myself through my poems and art: Dress of Belonging, Dress of Sea, Dress of Hands, Dress of Shadows, Dress of Unravelling. These imaginary dresses each take on different roles, and fulfill functions such as healing, protection, identity, beauty, freedom, safety, redemption or function as a container for fury and grief.
Are you ready for my first dress?
This first dress, Dress of Belonging, is a dress I wrote to talk about what it was like to grow up in a time and place where, despite the toil and incredible achievements of our mothers, grandmothers and allies, feminism was still a dirty word for many young people.
Can you can relate?
This is:
Dress of Belonging (All the Lights Went Out)
The first dress that I wove was of belonging
A dress to hide the girl and show the world
I was now a woman born for man
If God would not choose me then they would
So I made a dress that shrunk me smaller
Than my perfect grades and larger mind
Stitched in spider’s silk so they could find
Themselves in me
I made a dress of mirrors
And inside me all the lights went out
You’re like..Devine! Poetry’s off the hook🌸 haha in lack of better Words, i’ll leave the litterature to the Flowers-expertise🌸
